Nothing is More Certain than Death and Taxes
Ahh, ATO activity statements. Pretty much every business in the country needs to submit them and make the associated tax payments. However, for some strange reason it occasionally slips our minds (perhaps, maybe, selectively?).
When we say activity statements, we’re referring to Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
Have you ever found yourself on the receiving end of a reminder from the ATO saying your BAS or IAS was late? Or, worse, have you ever had to pay a late penalty to the ATO? Don’t stress, it’s not uncommon. We’re all human after all.
Here at Trade Guardian, we’re on the ball when it comes to submitting ATO activity statements. You’d probably expect this, given we’re professional bookkeepers.
We like to help our clients get their ATO submissions in on time as consistently as possible. Here is some friendly info to help you recall the key dates for your ATO activity statements.
Key Dates for Your Activity Statements
Most businesses will need to submit activity statements quarterly, e.g. BAS. The relevant due dates are:
- 28 October
- 28 February
- 28 April
- 28 July
For businesses that submit monthly activity statements, e.g. IAS, then the due dates are:
- 21st day of the month following the end of the taxable period
The source of these dates is the ATO’s due dates for lodging and paying your BAS page. There’s also a helpful video that explains things further on this page.
Looking for Extra Time?
Want to know how you can get an extension from the ATO? In other words, would you like some extra time to submit your BAS and IAS?
If you use the services of a properly Registered BAS Agent, for example the team here at Trade Guardian, then you can have an extra month on those due dates. That’s right, more time to submit and more time to pay: win-win!
